At Headshot HSV we do everything in our power to make you look your absolute best… Even down to making sure we use the correct lens, from the right distance, when capturing your Headshot portraits.

Lens choice is especially important for a headshot because it’s close up and everything is more noticeable. This means it is less forgiving and allows a smaller window for error. With a shorter or wide lens the photographer needs to physically get closer to the subject in order to fill the frame with their head and shoulders. The problem is, the closer you are to the lens, the more exaggerated look you’ll end up with. Think of a lens as a mirror, if you are very close to it, your features, such as your nose, will look bigger than normal and as you back up, you start to look more flattering. However, there is a sweet spot with distance; if your photographer zooms in too much your face becomes over compressed and appears flat.

Armed with what I like to call the law of exaggeration and compression, I can make the right adjustments to achieve the most flattering images of my clients. There is no one “size” fits all, it’s my job as a professional to assess my clients’ face and ask the right questions in order to determine what to enlarge or decrease in the image. For example, if a client has a smaller eye, I know that whatever is closer to the camera is bigger so it would make sense for me to pose them with the smaller eye closer to the camera and larger eye further back to even out the size of both eyes. It sounds like a lot but with over 19 years of photography experience, its second nature for us at Headshot HSV and we can’t help but make you look great!
